PhD Fellowships at Lisbon

The Centro de Filosofia da Universidade de Lisboa (CFUL) offers 3 research
positions in the following sub fields:

Sub field 1 – Ancient and Medieval Philosophy (1 PhD);

Sub field 2 – Ethics and Political Philosophy (1 PhD);

Sub field 3 – Philosophy of Language (1 PhD).

CFUL opens 3 positions for PhD researchers

Centro de Filosofia da Universidade de Lisboa is seeking for 3 researchers
holding a PhD degree in Philosophy.

CFUL is the largest Portuguese centre devoted to the promotion of advanced
research and training in Philosophy. Presently composed by 98 researchers,
CFUL has been developing research recognized both nationally and
internationally as being of excellent quality.

Successful candidates are required to conduct independent research, as well
as to contribute to the strengthening of Centro de Filosofia da Universidade
de Lisboa research output, in the following three domains:

Sub field 1: Ancient and Medieval Philosophy.

Applicants must hold a PhD degree in Philosophy and must have carried out
significant research in at least one of the areas of Ancient Philosophy and
Medieval Philosophy. They should master the research tools and techniques
specific to these areas, including knowledge of relevant languages (Greek,
Latin or Arabic). Successful candidates are expected to help consolidate and
improve research in Ancient Philosophy and Medieval Philosophy within Centro
de Filosofia da Universidade de Lisboa.

Sub field 2: Ethics and Political Philosophy

Applicants must hold a PhD degree in Philosophy and must have carried out
significant research in at least one of the areas of Ethics and Political
Philosophy, including adjacent domains such as Environmental Studies and
Philosophy of Law. They should master the research tools and techniques
specific to these areas. Successful candidates are expected to help
consolidate and improve research in Ethics and Political Philosophy within
Centro de Filosofia da Universidade de Lisboa.

Sub field 3: Philosophy of Language

Applicants must hold a PhD degree in Philosophy and must have carried out
significant research in the area of Philosophy of Language as practiced in
the analytic tradition, including the interface with adjacent domains such
as Epistemology, Metaphysics and Philosophical Logic. They should master the
research tools and techniques specific to the area; in particular, a good
background in formal logic and formal truth-conditional semantics is
required. Successful candidates are expected to help consolidate and improve
research in Philosophy of Language within Centro de Filosofia da
Universidade de Lisboa .
